Domain name revealed
This is a great example of an end user realizing how important having a key
generic domain is in future growth and development of a brand. Especially an end
user that has been a true pioneer in the space.

The name is great but this domain is really far to worth so much and any domain appraiser will confirm this fact, including the most well known.
It's not based in high domain metrics, nor it's not what we can really call a catchy brandable name.
This sale is an EXCEPTION.
But it outlines very well with his excess how factors external to the domain value can influate the final price.
Here:
- The good pockets of buyer.
- The fact it was really THE name they wanted.
- How Rick is a terrific salesman.
CONGRATS RICK!

That is the best news for everyone. When sales happen like that everyone benefits. It helps to set future prices for other domainers. It helps me because I happen to own some generic names with i in it.. Not like this name but this can only help the value of those names. I fell like all my names that have the letter i before it just doubled in price. Thank you for making the sale..

either way congratulations.

Congrats on a great sale! Wonder if you would share with us your experience regarding this sale. Like,
-who contacted who first
-the negotiation process, how long from start to finish
-how far from the original offer price is the final sale price of $750K
-etc
Any lessons learned and advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Amazing isn't it what can happen when a die-hard "don't care if I sell" domain owner meets a $$$-flush "must have at any price" buyer?
...and on a domain that the auction houses likely wouldn't have accepted with any more than a 10k reserve, if that.
Masterful indeed.
Note to all the other "i" domain holders out there (me included): Sorry, but we'll all be long gone from this earth before we see another such domain sell for anywhere near 750k

Hi Rick,
well done indeed.
I think a combination of a buyer with immense pockets and dare i say a seller who doesnt need the money and therefore could be incredibly brave with the price. I know of you r amazing sales record so i'm not underestimating your sales skills on this, but definitely a freak sale. Also, why say its generic?
Its a brandable domain. Well done, i really mean that, you are an inspiration and i have long been a fan, just wish i could of afforded to have turned down even $40k, much less tbh
cheers

this sale shows CNN's intelligence, and at the same time, the ignorance of the Cowboys front office

I take exception with that.
What's the biggest story of the year- Time person of the year- YOU.
YOUTUBE "Broadcast Yourself" worth $1 billion.
iPhone licensed to Cisco at $30 a unit- 4 million sold -- you do the math.
Cell cams and consumer-generated content have changed news media forever. Rick couldn't have a more targeted and timely name. In many ways it a name that says it all-- that summarizes the essence of the web2.0 revolution.
The internet is a broadcast medium NOT a text yellow pages. Domainers have it wrong. It's not the appraisals that suck it's the PPC logic on which most the portfolios are based.
Rick is the exception to that rule.
Congratulations!
