Million, Billion, Trillion. The Numbers. Do you Really Know the Difference?

Morning Folks!!

We throw around numbers all the time and folks still don’t
understand the magnitude and what a number means. I heard another way to look
at big numbers to quantify them and have them more understandable.

Million, Billion, Trillion, we use these numbers like sugar
packets at McDonalds. But have you ever stopped to really understand what they
mean and what they represent?

If you were to think of these large numbers as time and in
seconds it will give you a new way to visualize what the hell we are talking about.
There are 86,400 seconds in a 24 hour day. So 1 million seconds would be about
11 days. 1 billion seconds would be about 32 YEARS. 1 trillion seconds would be
32,000 YEARS

31,536,000 seconds per year. 3,105,360,000 in a 100 year
lifetime.

Part 2 coming soon.

Have a GREAT Day!
Rick Schwartz

And if the US national debt was paid off at $1 second it would go all the way back to the era of the dinosaurs?

A real eye-opener… has shocked every person I’ve shown it to without exception.
Rick, I’d encourage you to link to this page, or even add the images to the post.

    hi rick,
i try to think and live life, in seconds. after all, in one second, you can experience the ultimate beauty of the moment, whether a kiss, a landscape, a thought, or the magic of your child. life lasts a long time if you live it in seconds, and while being aware and appreciating each moment is a classic adage, really living every beat is a challenge. i try to use my breath as the metronome or the catalyst to remind me to think of every second. after all, at 59, even if i live another 50 years :-), that’s only 2500 saturdays which is sure not alot…. but it is, as you point out an opportunity for more than a billion experiences. thanks for you great blog, and thoughts.

Great graphical representation. If $10k of $100 bills is 0.5 inches, then a mere $4.5 trillion would be enough to have these back to back bills stretch from New York to London. Or for a trillion just stack them 800 miles into space.
They say that monetary easing to cope with the 2003 wobble lead to the boom and subsequent issues recently, so even more monetary easing to cope with 2009 is going to create and even bigger wobble in about 2015-2020.

By the same token if you have half a trillion trillion hydrogen atoms, you have a little less than one gram of hydrogen.
