Finally Folks Now See that Search Really is a SUCKY Experience!

Morning Folks!!

The spam engines.....I mean search engines.....namely Google....don't do much searching these days. They just try and suck you in to what you have already been sucked into before.

One of the best most candid pieces I have ever seen on search was done yesterday by Michael Arrington. He did a much better job articulating something I have been trying to convey for quite some time. He also gives some historical reference for those that do or don't remember the rise and fall of Alta Vista and his take on Demand Media that is dead on imo.

As things evolve this point and problem was predicable and foreseeable. What is not so apparent is how the surfer will eventually react and behave. To be fed garbage results over and over again until they become meaningless.

Have a GREAT Day!

Rick Schwartz

    Hello Rick,
We are formulating a much desired search experience for direct searchs inevitable future role. I have not read everything you have suggested but know instinctively a solution to the problem. The future looks very bright for Direct Navigation simply because it is based on honest search with recognizable predictable outcomes.

So, what you’re saying is that having a domain name someone might type into the browser will still make difference, right? That’s what I’m reading here. Is that what you mean? I don’t know if the people at Google ever got that part of it. Maybe, in the beginning, but when relevancy becomes a business, rather than a business being relevant, how can search be anything but a crap shoot?
    Just sayin’.

Google gets it, but you have to have a website to backup that domain claim. Yes the domain name is making a claim that is why all the lawsuits!
A good website will bounce you to #1 quick for that domain name search.
I just see a lack of skill in that department. It took me years of research and then pure creativity to come up with stuff.
I was hired and told to do reports by the biggest companies in the world. They never saw my ability plus they would never pay for it. People make you feel bad when you stake your claim and say your worth $500,000 or whatever.
This country has turned into a joke. I did everything on my own with no help. People say you are going to fail.
Google is the best partner you can have if you know how to use them. For those that don’t understand how to use them to make millions that is to bad.

Google have overcome search, they now just place their own site directory above most generic results. Generic search is on it’s last legs.

    Hello Rick,
    Hello Rick,
The much anticipated move by Google to attack content farms was announced on Andrews site.
We all knew this was coming we just did not know in what form it would come. This is going to be highly lethal to some business models. Google pretty well nailed the best delivery system and will impact a lot of people. By the way expect Bing and Yahoo to have their own versions !!There needs to be a change, SOON!!

I think Google is doing a great job, and not because I work there! No- anyway I do some complicated searches on Google and it fines what I am looking for 90% of the time and I am happy I don’t see all those parked pages anymore! It’s really not that hard of an algorithm if Google sends someone to your page and their there for less then a second Google knows your page sucks. I am sure Google also takes in to consideration the smartness of the person doing the search so if you spell a lot of words wrong you wont give the page as many Google happy points as a person that spells correctly. If anything they need to stop sending people to other search engine pages because that doesn’t make since we want to find the sites were looking for on Google. If you have a great domain name you also need a great website.
Now I am going to go read the tech crunch article and see what he says.
Try the”I’m Feeling Lucky” button if you haven’t tried it!

    Rick, i disagree with you…
google is google times better than trying to find something by directly typing in the domain name.
google is making domain names worthless very very soon!
most people including your self are using google to find stuff instead of directly typing in the domain name
it doesnt matter about the domain name…if you have a shitty domain name and rank up on top of google page…you are in the game!
of course it definately helps to have a great domain name…but its not necessary.
i would rather have a bad domain name and be ranked on top of google page than have a great domain name with no google ranking

One of the most immutable relevancy anchors a search engine algo will ever be able to arbitrate is the domain name precisely matching the search string. G got it right when they boosted exact match.
The two parts of the relevancy equation that cannot be ‘gamed’ are age (as determined by the index) and the domain. Every other on and off page factor can be synthesized, for the most part.
SEO’s hate this because it they believe search engine ranking is a puzzle to be solved and shouldn’t be left up to whoever owns the right domains. They are right, but only to a point… Domainers hate SEO and search engines in general because they believe the domain itself should determine who is ‘most qualified’ to rank. Sorry lads. You had your chance. Unfortunately, when the internet was new and consumers were formulating their indelible browsing habits, they typed-in like madmen but all you served up were Netsol stickmen holding shovels and now, people have learned that isn’t an efficient way to find what you want.
If you take a broader view, I think a few natural laws of business will determine that the best keyword domains eventually wind up in qualified hands- as we’re starting to see already- and based on that theory, G is probably ahead of the curve in boosting for exact match. It’s the one thing SEO’s cannot ‘fake’, however, it does empower sham developers who own the right domains to deliver shit content.
Tough problem to solve, but on balance (and as it pertains to domains), I think a strong exact match boost is warranted. It’s easily negated if the algo identifies sham development but absent that, glaring examples of abuse notwithstanding, an exact matching domain is a pretty strong indicator of a meaningful user experience.

    Hello Rick,
We find the rapidly changing Worldly events, which by the way hinge on the internet. Powerfull indications on the strategic importance of businesses and now countries having a handle on their future strategies for going forward. Your sense of cataclysmic change for this decade is now coming into focus in a much broader rollout than imagined.
There are many things that we all can do, but to what avail. Probably best to sit back and watch things unfold for a little while before making next move. Yes doing nothing for the time being seems advisable, for now. There are powerfull underlying market forces changing the road ahead for all of us.
Our personal read as far as facebook and others is to think twice before giving the mastery of your domains BRAND over to a social site and expect to maintain control of your BRAND.This is a form of insanity. We see Madison Avenue starting to adopt this strategy, which in our opinion is self flagellation. At this key juncture giving your power to Google,Facebook, and others is extremely unwise.

Any search engine that can have its results gamed by methods that do not include relevant results is by definition spamming.
I can have a program make me 100,000 links to a site that will soon appear in the #1 spot in Google.
Google search (there are other things that Google offers that are quite good) is a fiat business, it only has value because people believe it has value, once that is gone it goes away.

Google is building a walled garden that is customizeable. They are tightening “quality” standards and the ones getting hit are not big, advertisers. There will be communities that will share block lists.
Google shuts down Adsense accounts for “policy violations”, keeps all your money, and will not tell you what you violated. This happens on your first offense.
Bing has not proven itself as an platform producing quality, organic results. I hope they will see the opportunity as Google moves away from it. Those were the good old days when quality ruled. Really.
Direct Navigation is 20% of the Internet. If Direct Nav would be promoted as a way to go directly to quality sites with out search engine garbage and gerry mandering that number would increase. I know a lot of people would welcome that news.

    Hello Rick,
It is extremely important that Domainers wake up and smell the coffee!
The big search engines have been appeasing Domainers on the front of the stage and on the back of the stage wondering what they can do about Direct Navigation ? They throw DOMAINERS Scraps and Dine on the choice cuts.
We must all understand one major point! Direct navigation threatens their Business Model.
They are wondering how to handle this 800 pound gorilla ? They have decided they need to handle this very GENTLY, yet figure out how to keep the genie in the bottle. Feed the Gorilla just enough so they do not starve, but keep him weak and controllable.
We all know Direct Navigation cannot be stopped even by the Goliaths who rule the roost. It is here to stay. Appeasement is their only option. Meanwhile Domainers go into denial of the underlying issues and things move on.
DOMAINERS wake up we have far more power than you can imagine. We have an ace in our deck that easily trumps their hand, and it is called Underlying Market Forces, which in the end dictate to ALL BUSINESS MODELS the road ahead. No exceptions !
So Whats next , snoozing at the wheel or grabbing it away from them ??

    Hello Rick,
You know we are passionate about current Business Owners frustrations with current Search Engine Models and are pushing to change things by launching a BETTER ALTERNATIVE !
We find it totally amusing that Google and others, who are the true S.E.O. spam Spinners, are attacking Untitled writers of content as other than professionals. When everybody knows Untitled writers content usually trumps hired guns offerings.
This does not wash well with us or any other savvy Business Owner Professionals. The days of buying the enchilada, that Googles content is better because they cook their Alogs to give you the true Search experience, is a lie.
After all Google rewards its patrons who spend their money continually updating their S.E.O. optimization, by putting their biggest competitors on the same search page,” One mouse Click Away To The Right !”
If this is not corporate extortion, then what is up with That ?

    Hello Rick,
Over at Domain Name Review there is a discussion about Googles Matt Cutts. Mr. Cutts says people were complaining about too much Alog weighting given to Key Words in their COOKED search experience.
This is a quote in the header of the article =” May be that might have negative effect on the value of some keyword domains without many type in visitors”
This is a VERY LARGE MAYBE, simply because of the fact that the underlying market trend is back to type in search on URL browsers.
Any new Search company can expect a large following of people fed up with the current search GAMING that is always changing, and in effect creates massive S.E.O. Expenses. We believe that Type ins provide a vast opportunity and is a fast developing Market Niche that is UNDER SERVED.

    Hello Rick,
We tryed to post this comment on several Blogs and it was Censored.
    Hello,
There is no secret that will constantly keep you high in Googles rankings. Our web site has been on the first page in rankings many times but utimately falls back down. Then we have to adjust S.E.O. recalibrations to regain the first page.
We as well as all online Business Owners are being contantly GAMED By Google. It is no secret to us that Google is constantly manipulating Alogs. What they do on a regular basis is manipulate their Alogs to cause constant S.E.O. countermoves so as to control the Ad Market.
Talk about Gaming?? We feel this is nothing more than Corporate EXTORTION being perpetrated on all Online Business Owners who agree to their Game. We have a solution we will be offering all Business Owners once our site is launched. Stay tuned Business Owners you are about to get a fair search alternative that builds your Brand not ours.
