It May be 2013 for Some, but it is 2014, 2015, 2016 for Me.

Morning Folks!!

I know some people who walk and always look down at their toes and seem to always have bruises on their foreheads. Should I suggest they raise their level of their eyes to avoid that pain and the chances are the anger will be directed at the person telling them that. However a simple adjustment can change your destiny.

But let's be honest, we all have our heads looking at a different point in the future. Whether it just be for the hour, the day, the week, the weekend, the first of the month when the bills are due. April 15th when taxes are due. Sales this year vs last year and planning for next year.

My focus is probably all of the above. However I spend time each day planning for 12, 18 even 36 months into the future. I tend to "vault over" those canyons of bad business. That is the time I just sit back a bit and relax. Make hay when the sun shines and realize when it is raining you need to do something else or just go play.

Every TLD other than .com sells for less than .com. The counterpart of ANY domain name has more value with a .com on the end than .anything else. Guess what, it likely will not change in the lifetime of anyone reading this. So those that plan for 100 years from now, well you will be dead. The second coming seldom comes and when it does, it could be way past your life expectancy.

So in the late 90's and early 2000's when there was still PLENTY of .com domains around to build an empire, some focused on .biz, .info, etc and they are still waiting for their ship to come in. The POINT I always tried to make over the 15++ years is don't settle for the cheap seats when the box seats were there for the taking. Gold and diamonds were in the mine but some focused on the next big thing. TIN!

Tin has value. But when tin and gold sit right next to each other it is very hard to convince me that tin is better.

So here we are. .Whatever sells for 1%-10% of a .com IF you can even sell it. When and IF .whatever is EVER on PAR with .com, most reading this will be dead.    Here's to your health and wealth!

Have a GREAT Day!

Rick Schwartz

1 % of .com price may still be big money for some. I guess that’s why the .whatever will manage to survive if they can.

Observer, the issue though is that 1% of .com isn’t enough for the time it takes to sell the domain and all the registration fees that come along in the mean time. Also there’s transaction costs with selling a name. You’d make a loss on holding a portfolio of non .com’s.

The days of hand regging domains and making easy long term growth is over. There is some in the drops to be made, but the real action is in the secondary market for undervalued names that can be worked up to something bigger.

There really are more domains than ideas and more domains than developers, to build a website on. The only way to have someone wishing to buy your name is to have quality.

Anyway, anyone thats been around this game for a while knows that trying to change newbie type mindsets is mission impossible half the time, but the annual registration fees do not lie and the lack of sales will show.

    Hello Rick,

The formula for the highest ROIs in history is still unrecognized by 99.99 % of the public. Only the wisest of Oracles know this secret formula.

99 percent of us domainers need to worry about how we are going make it though the summer. Thats the reality Rick.

Take away the top 500 domainers in the world, Thats the truth.

Call it whatever way you want it, but numbers and reality tells us this. Your a true exception Rick, but I dont think this post is really for the domainer community. To you, Berkens, a frank schilling and the domainer doing 100k a year.

I am very much worried and concern for the next 6 weeks, infact I am looking for a job to bring some income in.

      Reality,
6 weeks gets you through the summer.
6 weeks gets you to your 1 year anniversary.
6 weeks is when the fall business cycle begins. (August 15th)
6 weeks are going to be slow. Write it off. Don’t stress.
      Recharge your batteries.
      Focus on 1 deal.

6 weeks today is a lot better than the 6 DAYS you might have had a year ago.
      So press on!!

BullS I like your optimism on the DOW. My bet though is the China shadow banking issue is going to put enough fear into the market to peg it back to 15k. I see the rest of the year as effectively sideways and hitting around 15.2k just into the new year and then taking off in 2014.

BTW good to see you’re still catching stuff on the hook.

The incredible quality of Hand-Regs that I have picked up recently is mindboggling! Some of these had to have been registered before. I am treating this exactly the same as the Real Estate market, because while the price points will always be changing, there will always be money to be made! My best advice is to have a plan. I get tons of emails everyday from people trying to sell me their domains and very few of them have any plans, they are just sitting on their domains! Make a move!

    Hello Rick,

The key to utilizing the GTLDs is to first own a .COM Profit Center for their Traffic to Aggregate to. Those who sense this key nuance will truly profit from their introduction.

.com is king but not the world. If you do it right those 1%-10% are doing amazing good like they always did, no problem to sell .whatever as long as you analyze the relevant market. Sure it´s hard work, but it´s just an matter of calculation to beat the possible earnings of .com, not at least because .com is quite expensive in yearly fee´s as well as to get good keys as domainer with little budget. .com is not really attractive for most who do bulk registrations.
I often hear that domainers try to get the 1mio sale, but the plan usually does not work. Why not selling 1000 domains $1000 each? The big chance is not over since 2002/03, we are still at the beginning, and this will not change soon.

I agree, with a slight caveat…All of these .whatever may never overcome .com but they will bring an unprecedented level of marketing capital to the market. Which means the public will be better educated on the use of .whatever. In turn, I believe in our lifetime you will see some very, very successful, unique .whatever because they will have 2 things: 1. they will have a huge new GLOBAL market ready to feed and 2. there will be some that are incredibly rare.. just my thoughts but as always great article Rick!
