Rick reveals a Top Secret. Can a Commercial Increase the Value of a Domain Name?

Morning Folks!!


What is my direct relationship to Travelocity? Well
there was really none until recently and much more today. Travelocity is making
me bonus dollars and increasing the value of one of my domain in the process.


One of the very first domains I ever bought is still one of my
favorites. It is the type of domain that is pretty interesting because it is
universal. Some may call it a brandable, I just look at it as a promotional
domain name. So Travelocity starts running a new campaign showing they are
different than Priceline and Orbitz because they have “
Top Secret
Hotels
”. They go on to repeat that phrase 3 times during the 30 second
spot. “Top Secret Hotels”, “Top Secret Hotels”., “Top Secret Hotels” to very
large audiences. No, I don’t own TopSecretHotels.com. BUT……I do own
TopSecret.com and the numbers are increasing. Traffic is up 5 fold and I can
only hope they keep running the commercial more frequently and for a long time.


Positioning yourself and positioning your portfolio for the future can
pay huge dividends in time. Long live the Gnome!

    Seu, Rick is hardly typosquatting on this one.
    As he said he has owned TopSecret.com ( a very nice domain) for many years.
    The travelocity ad campaign is merely boosting the traffic temporarily, thats not typosquatting it’s called a slice of luck.

    Yes it is amazing what a little amount of advertising will do for a BRAND.
    Wow as I am commenting I am reading some comments and I cannot believe my eyes when I see a reference to a subclass extension as being the hot Address.I guess the greater fool factor in our Industry makes for a bigger market I guess? I am consistently amazed at other peoples realities. WOW

    It’s always nice to discover that someone else’s ad dollars are feeding your domain. I’ve had this happen a couple of times, but I always wished it would last longer ;)

    How long have I been away?
    Rick what is causing this recent cases of anymosity towards you?
    I still subscribe to the school of tought that says”he who pays respect to the great paves way for his own greatness”
    Back to the issue at hand, topsecret is a first class reg and it always amazes me how some miss the lesson and focus on somethigh else.
