Men.com….The Domain I Never Wanted to Sell

Morning Folks!!

The Men.com deal was headlines around the entire world from CNN to some 125 newspapers and more. If not for that sale, I doubt TRAFFIC would have happened in 2004. The Men.com sale gave me more mileage than anything else I ever did. But did I want to sell? No.

I was divorced just months before. I did not see it coming and most of my cash went with it. Some $5M at the time between cash and property. But most importantly, my domains, home and other critically important things were kept. (Maybe I should have talked to MM) But it took me out of the 'Domain Game' during a very important point in time. So I missed a very potent unique opportunity and had to focus on rebuilding my life until 2005 when I purchased Property.com to replace my previous 'Crown Jewel'.

This is the first time I am ever telling this story. I think I only realized the impact on my life when I looked back earlier this summer and began to analyze things. But hey, you deal the hand you are dealt and make the best of it every day of your life.

Could have been a lot worse.

Have a GREAT Day!

Rick Schwartz

Successfully dealing the hand you are dealt and staying positive is absolutely the key to success in my book. Thanks for sharing. I hit a rough patch recently. Much the same situation…

No doubt, you ‘play’ the hand you are dealt…winning some, losing others but playing on nonetheless.

Never married but I understand that you will need to divide your property with your wife when divorced.
How about the virtual property like domain, websites etc?

$1.32M was the deal and included the domain DirtyJokes.com which was developed and then later resold for an extremely hefty multiple.

yes you had a divorce but you kept your domains. and this is the most important part because with the remaining domains, porno, candy, etc you were netting over a million a year.and your future cash flow was not incumbered.its easy to build up when you are netting 80k a month but its hard emotinally to keep it together after a divorce.

Not really. A divorce can be handled if you are strong emotionally. When they almost killed his mother, now that is a tough one to hold it together on.
